Welcome to K/1 EIP!

EIP stands for Elementary Instructional Program. We are a self-contained special education classroom, with a low student-to-teacher ratio. Each student in our classroom is also assigned to a general education class, where they have opportunities to interact with general education students for different aspects of their day (e.g. lunch, recess, P.E., music, art, library, and other academic areas when indicated).

August 2017 - Meeting my niece, Kenzie, for the first time! She is 3 days old in this picture.
Hello! This is my fifth year at Butterfield, and second year in the K-1 EIP room. Prior to moving to EIP, I taught first grade and kindergarten here at Butterfield! I grew up in Highland Park where I participated on the swim team; backstroke was my specialty. I went to Bradley University for my undergraduate degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2008. Following graduation I worked at St. Mark Catholic School in Peoria, IL teaching first grade. I spent four years at St. Mark School before moving back to the Chicagoland area to be closer to my family. After returning to the Chicagoland area I worked as both a long-term and short-term substitute teaching in many local districts. In 2014, I become a paraeducator at Highland Middle School working in the HIP room. In May 2015, I began a graduate studies program, and in May 2018 I completed my Master's in Special Education through Concordia University!

In addition to my many years of teaching experience, I have also worked with a variety of summer camps, teaching circus and juggling. One of my "hidden" talents is that I know how to juggle and walk on stilts! On August 7, 2017 I became an aunt, when my brother and sister-in-law welcomed their first child, Kenzie, into the world. Being an aunt and watching my little brother be a dad has been a very fun change to my life.
